Our Client is an international trading arm of a Fortune 500 multinational group, headquartered in Europe. They have a presence of over 40,000 employees supporting their businesses worldwide. Their main business activities involve direct sales of their products and project business, providing a vast range of services. Their core competencies include broad knowledge of raw and finished materials as well as complex services, financials and logistics solutions. The focus of their activities is on their customers. Their goal is to develop flexible and tailor-made solutions so that our partners can focus on their core business. Partnering with their customers, they provide a wide range of products and services including steel tubes and pipes and their accessories, structural steel for offshore applications, trading of rolled steel, technical products and machinery. They are experts in the distribution of carbon and stainless steel, nonferrous metals, solid fuels, ferro-alloys, and industrial minerals amongst other products. Their extensive distributor network covers more than sixty countries and provides the ideal platform for quick and easy communications between themselves and their customers. Due to a desire to expand their product portfolio, they are seeking to invite an experienced professional with in-depth knowledge of physical Iron Ore trading in Asia to join them in their Singapore office and establish a new product trading desk.


Iron Ore Trader, Asia


The Trader shall be based in Singapore and will be accountable to the Managing Director with interactions with numerous other internal stakeholders.  He/She will develop new customers and suppliers’ relationships within the Asian marketplace as well as developing untapped business areas for expanding the Company’s business further.

Core Accountabilities:


  • Trading Iron Ore within the Asian marketplace
  • Establish and review contracts with customers and suppliers and show a business oriented mindset
  • Fundamental knowledge of supply chain, logistics and trade finance
  • Monitor and research markets and financial developments both locally and overseas
  • Develop both new customers and suppliers
  • Team player, able to communicate well with operation team, customers and suppliers
  • Provide after sales service to customers and where necessary liaise with both customers and suppliers to ensure the smooth running of the business.
  • Be prepared to travel regularly both locally and overseas to properly service the customer and supplier base


  • Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in Business/Commercial and/or other relevant discipline

Experience & Technical Competencies:

  • Minimum 8 years practical experience gained within an international trading business
  • In-depth significant hands-on experience in an international business of physical iron ore trading
  • Fundamental knowledge of supply chain, logistics, trade finance and risk management
  • Solid trading experience
